Deal Of The Day

If we know one thing about VIKTOR & ROLF, we know they've achieved a balance between sophisticated and sexy. We love these blouses, and expect them to impress in both style and versatility.

The Grammys Are Glam In Black And Gold And We Have Questions For Paula Abdul

We watched the Grammys last night and while there were some memorable performances, there were some even more memorable outfits. The Grammys is for us like that party at your weird friend’s house: you go because you know that you will be able to talk about the bizarre outfits and strange people for days to come. Of last night’s arrivals, there are two hot trends you should watch out for on the red carpet and two dresses that just make us feel all angry inside.

imageimage

Trend: Glam and Gold. A couple of stars came out in gorgeous confections of gold both short and long. This glamorous trend was smoking hot on Gwyneth Paltrow in Versace and Carrie Underwood in Zuhair Murad.

Trend: Chic and Black.
The black dress last night showed up in all its classic glory but looked fresh and new on some of Hollywood’s younger stars. Some critics thought Miley Cyrus appeared matronly in Max Azria, but we thought she looked gorgeous, as did Taylor Swift in Kaufman Franco.

How do you capitalize on the black or nude and gold trends for your own wardrobes? This JS Boutique V-Neck Gown with Rhinestones ($164) is a glamorous take on the trend in a design that is truly timeless. If it’s the glimmer of gold you seek, this Vera Wang Gold Satin Beaded Detail Shift Dress ($315) is a great option for a variety of shapes and heights.

Worst Dressed of the Night
: This was a tie for us. Between rapper M.I.A.’s slash and sew drapery dress and Paula Abdul’s Basil Soda fembot canary yellow monstrosity, we feel we should report them both for assault. We can almost get behind the fact that M.I.A. was due to give birth at any minute so she didn’t want to wear something she could potentially ruin. What’s YOUR excuse, Paula?

Hidden Metallic Lip-Print Nippies Will Make You Feel Naughty, Still Look Nice

My fondness for Bristols 6 Nippies is already well-established, so in honor of (being single on) Valentine’s Day, I thought I’d take the sort-of-crazy metallic red patterned ones on a test drive on the outside world.

image

So I wore this clingy one-shouldered dress ($210) out last weekend – and thank goodness I had a pair of ‘All The Way Up’ SPANX ($28) and a selection of Nippies ($15 for 2 pairs) on hand, because without the proper underpinnings, it’s a sort of terrifying garment.

But thanks to the seamless, stay-in-place Nippies, there was zero tugging at the top of the dress and no adjusting a slipping strapless bra. Plus, there's something fun about knowing you're wearing printed pasties under your outfit. And my darling dinner date was pleasantly surprised to see me swap my usual black shift dress for something…else. Everyone wins.

We shuffled into the New York City theaters over the weekend to watch the highly-anticipated He’s Just Not That Into You, and as far as chick flicks go, this is a rather smart and funny romantic comedy. We think the movie’s worth some hard earned cash to watch it with your girlfriends and commiserate over your love lives (after which we think a martini might be in order) but the clothes are definitely cute and noteworthy. Here are some big trends you see featured in this movie:

The main heroine Gigi, played by Ginnifer Goodwin, has that very giggly homage to 50’s pin-up girl mixed with slightly updated touches of 90’s goth. Gigi is almost always in very girly dresses in bohemian little prints paired with tights and cute cardigans. This adorable Kimchi Blue Knit Print V Neck Dress ($58) can be worn with black tights and this adorable Forever 21 Ribbed Cropped Cardigan (now $11) to achieve a similar look.

Speaking of the 90’s, it appears plaid shirts are making a comeback. There was a lot of plaid in this movie, most notably worn my Jennifer Aniston’s character Beth. We recommend this Kettle Black Plaid Flannel Baby Doll Shirt ($110) with one of Aniston’s favorite denims (which we believe are the jeans also worn on camera), the Lofli Streamline Straight Leg Jean in Potassium Wash ($185.)

Last but not least, there were so many shawl cardigan sweaters in this movie it made us upset we hadn’t brought ours to the theater. Impossibly easy options for office, errands, or evening, these little items have won our hearts as well. Go with this Gap Shawl Cardigan ($69) or for the long, gorgeous style seen on Aniston, give this Delphine Skinny Ribbed Cardigan ($245) a whirl.
